The Jennings Univox

Production numbers, model by model

Updated (12th January, 2026)

A provisional overview of the numbers of Univoxes made, model by model, 1950s to mid 1960s. The main pages on the Univox in early days :

J5 (first version): early to mid 1952, from serial number 100 (or perhaps 200) through to the 400/500s.

J5 (second version): mid 1952 to spring 1953, in terms of serial numbers, from somewhere in the 400s/500s to the 600s. A revised form of the J5 - a redesign - by Derek Underdown, who had been brought in by Tom to sort out the difficulties that had arisen earlier in 1952. Derek's first day at Jennings was the 3rd June 1952.

J6: spring 1953 to the mid 1960s, serial numbers beginning at 1000 through to the 3600s.

J7: spring 1953 to the early 1960s (?), around 1300-1400 made, serial number sequence beginning at 100.

J10: spring 1954 to the early 1960s (?), around 400-500 made, serial number sequence beginning at 100.

Thanks to Martin for his notes on surviving examples and numbers. Univox J6s were evidently made and sold by Jennings in far greater numbers than some its lower-powered amplifiers - the AC1 (of late 1960); AC2/AC4; and AC6.

Total sales of all models of Univox exceeded the AC10, AC15, and AC100 individually by some margin.
