Early shop adverts for the Vox AC10 (G1/10, AC1/10)
1959 to 1960
Below, a growing collection of adverts for the Vox AC10 placed by shops outside London in local newspapers, 1959 and 1960. Birmingham is best represented at present by a good margin, though that naturally may change as further material comes to light.
1959
Kay Westworth's, Birmingham, April 1959, a two-input AC10 at 27 guineas and an AC1/15 (classed as being 20 watts) at 59 guineas in stock.
24th April 1959. The AC10 was not listed in the advert placed by Westworth's in late January '59.
The earliest advert (so far) to cite the model as an AC1/10 - placed by Cooke and Sons of Peterborough, 6th November, 1959.
6th November, 1959.
Yardley's, Birmingham, November 1959, the old shop at 69-70 Snow Hill, a "Vox Professional with Tremilo" at £40 and 19 shilings (39 guineas) in stock - in other words an AC/10.
13th November 1959. The AC10 was not listed in the Yardley's advert of 30th October.
Yardley's, Birmingham, December 1959, a "Vox Hi-Fi deluxe, 20 watt" (AC1/15) at 59 guineas, along with the "Vox Professional with Tremilo" mentioned in November.
11th December 1959.
1960
Yardley's, Birmingham, May 1960, a Vox AC6 and an AC10 without tremolo (at 29 guineas) in stock. This is the only instance that has so far come to light of a shop advert for an AC6 outside London. The page on the model can be found here.
13th May 1960.
Small ad - so not technically a shop advert - for a Vox AC1/10 Amplifier, Portsmouth Evening News, July 1960:
July 1960.
Again, a small ad - "Exchange and Mart" magazine, October 1964, a two input AC10, either a really early one, or an early second circuit amp:
October 1964.
For earlier AC10s see the index page here.
