A late single speaker Vox AC10

Serial number 4619 - early 1965

A superb late single speaker Vox AC10. At some point, probably in the 1970s, a further EF86 valve was added to give the Normal channel a little more sparkle - along the lines of the AC15. The modifications were well done.

The chassis was assembled at the new Works at Erith, which was owned by and shared with Burndept Electronics (one of JMI's principal contractors and a fellow member of the Royston Group of Industries). Production of the single speaker AC10 drew to a close in 1965.

The chassis number of the amp pictured below, stamped on the preamp upright under the voltage selector, is 2249.

In terms of components and date codes. Transformers are Parmekos, electrolytic capacitors blue Hunts, and signal capacitors Mullards. Hunts date codes are "HWT" and "TIT" = 21st and 41st weeks of 1964; and Mullard "B4N", "C4N", and "D4N", respectively second, third, and last quarters of 1964.

Visible date codes on the valves are - EZ81 paint code "LC" = March 1964; EF86 paint code "LE" = May 1964; and on the ECC83 paint code "M?" = some month in 1965.

In early to mid 1964, AC10 Twins were split off into a number serial number sequence beginning at 1000. Single speaker AC10s, produced in ever smaller numbers, kept to the old sequence, which had reached the 4000s at the time. The highest number known at present for a single speaker AC10 is 4632.
