Vox AC30 serial number 1264

"Vox Sound Limited", produced at the Birch Stolec factory in Hastings, late 1972

A superb "Vox Sound Limited" AC30, made at the Birch Stolec factory in Hastings / St Leonard's on Sea in late 1972, its circuit arranged on printed circuit boards. The main page on these amps .

Serial number 1264, which should have had reverb, was actually issued without - in other words as a simple AC30TB. Although reverb control knob and pot are in place, a tank was evidently never installed in the bottom of the cabinet. In late 1972, things were not well at "Vox Sound Limited", its financial situation precarious. By early 1973 it was effectively dead in the water. The highest (new sequence) AC30 serial number currently known to have been issued by VSL is 1300.

In terms of components and date codes: transformers are Lemark (formerly Twickenham Transformers) - mains, part no. TT4350; choke, part no. TT4259; and output, part no. TT4237. Larger electrolytic caps are Radiospares; others (electrolytic and signal) are Philips, MFT, and LTL. Two RS caps have the date code "J72" = September 1972.

Speakers are Celestion alnico T2056, with date codes "KE3" and "KE27" = 3rd and 27th October 1972.

As can be seen, the printed circuit boards are stamped with the Birch Stolec inspection stamp. The solid state Vox amps assembled in the factory were similiarly stamped.
