Vox AC30 Super Reverb Twin serial number 7785N
Ready for sale in the third quarter of 1963
Chassis assembled for JMI by Westrex; Albion transformers. "119" is inscribed on the aluminium upright at right (other examples on this page). In the preamp, red-print WIMA signal capacitors, and gold-coloured TCC electrolytics with the date code "UC" = March 1963 for their manufacture.
The speakers are dated 13th July 1963 (Pulsonic cone code "19H1777" - see this page). The Mullard yellow-print GZ34 has the paint code July 1963 too.
Speaker cabinet and amplifier section are covered in basketweave, an early example (serial number 7433, also a Super Twin, is perhaps the earliest that has come to light so far). Note that the inner face of amplifier section back-board is covered too - standard JMI practice. The chalked initials "EM" - in both cabinets - only appear in other Super Twins, not Twins.
Serial number 7785N is currently one of the earliest AC30 Super Reverb Twins known. The designation "N" for "Normal" was standard for SRTs through to the introduction of serial number plates with longer panels (after which "ST/R" or "SR" was normally stamped). Thanks to Phil for the pictures.
