Plessey speakers
Used by Jennings for the Univox and Vox G1/10 amplifiers
Thanks to Glen, pictures of a 10" Plessey speaker from 1956, the company's name stamped on the frame, which is unusual. For the most part these speakers had no designation of any sort on their exteriors.
Smooth rather than ribbed cone. Dated 56/17 on the gasket.
Below, shots of Plessey 10" speakers in situ: a Univox J10 from 1956; and an early (very early) TV Front Vox G1/10, late 1958 / early 1959. Further pictures of the G1/10 can be found here. Material on the Univox, 1953-1956, is being gathered on the Jennings Organ Company section of the website.
JMI continued to use Plessey for the Univox through to 1960/1961, whereupon Elacs were adopted. For the TV Front Vox G1/10, Plessey had only a short run, soon giving way to Goodmans - see this page.
It may be that JMI adopted Plessey speakers for at least some of its other early portable amplifiers too (mid and later 1950s); none has so far come to light though.
