Vox AC30s exported to Scandinavia, mid 1963 to 1968
In progress November 2026

From mid 1963 tp 1968, JMI's principal agent in Scandinavia was "Europaeisk Musik Import", based in Lille Vaerlöse, Denmark. One of the company's duties, general distribution aside, was to bring the amplifiers into line with local electrical regulations. This involved removing the voltage selector, hard-wiring for 230v, and adding fuses for the HT. These last were mounted in the preamp.

Printed foil stickers were placed over the opening left by the removal of the selector. As a rule of thumb, copper-coloured stickers were affixed to amps with copper panels, grey to grey. It would be nice to say that this was always the case, but it seems not.
Also provided, a circular sticker, blue border and yellow background, with a printed "S". In 1967 the background was changed to blue and the outline white.
The earliest AC30 currently identifiable as being a direct export by JMI to the region Twin serial number 8860, mid 1963, pictured below.
The greater number of exports to Scandinavia, so far as one can judge at present, seem to have taken place within two main ranges: serial numbers in the 14000s, and numbers in the 19000s.
A running hand-list of the amps sent to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland will be provided in due course.
As a side note, "Europaeisk Musik Import" remained the Danish agent for Vox through to late 1969, when "Vox Sound Equipment Limited" collapsed. At one point, solid state amps were shipped out as parts (to be assembled on arrival) to avoid higher levels of tax. Whether the company continued to serve "Vox Sound Limited" (1970-1973) is not clear at the moment.
Mid 1963 to late 1964
Exported early on to Norway, perhaps sent direct by JMI, AC30 Super Reverb Twin serial number 8067, pristine condition, original valves, original everything. The voltage selector is still in place however, and no additional fuses were added. More to come on this in due course.

A good clean example of an intermediate form of sticker added over the opening left by the removal of JMI's voltage selector. The amp pictured below is AC30 Twin serial number 19902. Numbers 19858 and 19907 were also exported to Scandinavia.
As the stickers note, the Swedish representative (local distributor) was by 1965 "Ahlfors Musikförlag" in Malmö.

An overlay, complete with legends and holes for fuseholder, lamp, and switch, for the whole right-hand side of the control panel. There is no mention of "Europaeisk Musik Import". The sticker with the "S" on it now has a blue background.
